Wienand

Wienand is an Inquisitor of the Imperial Inquisition who acted as its representative among the High Lords of Terra during the War of the Beast. Recorded as an elderly woman, she owed allegiance to the Inquisition rather than to any individual High Lord, and her standing derives from the years in which the government of the Imperium was contested from within while Ork and Iron Warriors forces pressed the Sol system. Nothing is firmly attested of her origins, homeworld or earlier career.

In the accounts of the war, Wienand was confided in by the veteran Inquisitor Kyril Sindermann, later Lord Inquisitor Veritus, who told her that he was the last of the four Inquisitors to know of the founding of the Grey Knights. At Terra, she is recorded as pressing Lord High Admiral Lansung into action by having her agents exploit the rivalry between Admirals Price and Acharya, which drew Lansung out with part of Battlefleet Solar towards the Siege of Port Sanctus. Veritus then carried out a political coup within the Inquisition and replaced her as Inquisitorial Representative, and she is described as having faked her death and gone into hiding. Accounts also place her in the Imperial Palace, where she convinced Chapter Master Maximus Thane of her loyalty and supplied the intelligence used to locate Grand Master of Assassins Drakan Vangorich, who had taken refuge in the Eversor Temple at Terra’s north pole.

Wienand’s significance lies in her position between the Inquisition, the High Lords and the Space Marine Chapters at the point when the Imperium’s central authority was failing. Her contemporaries in this window include Vangorich, Lansung, Veritus, Thane, Ecclesiarch Mesring and Grand Provost Marshal Vernor Zeck. Her fate after the removal of Vangorich is not recorded, and her status is therefore given as unknown. On the Orrery map she is anchored to Terra, and on the timeline to the War of the Beast.
