Battle of the Alaxxes Nebula
The Battle of the Alaxxes Nebula was a naval engagement of the Horus Heresy in the 31st millennium, fought between Space Wolves and Alpha Legion forces. It belongs to the early phase of the civil war, when the Legions loyal to the Emperor and those aligned with Warmaster Horus were contesting the space lanes that led towards Terra. The Alaxxes Nebula is recorded as the setting for the clash, and its dust and ionised gas are the kind of terrain in which fleet movements are concealed and detection is unreliable. This favoured the Alpha Legion, whose doctrine relied on misdirection, infiltration and indirect action rather than open confrontation. The Space Wolves, the VI Legion under Leman Russ, fought in the Heresy as a loyalist force with a strong tradition of direct assault and close-quarters fighting.
