Bhab Bastion
Bhab Bastion was a fortified bastion in the Imperial Palace defences on Terra, contested during the Siege of Terra in the closing phase of the Horus Heresy. It belongs to the ring of walls, towers and gate-works that the Loyalist defenders held against the forces of the Warmaster Horus in the final years of the thirty-first millennium (M31). The bastion is one of the numerous strongpoints whose defence is recorded as part of the wider struggle for the Palace, rather than as a self-contained campaign. The siege began when the Warmaster’s fleets and legions reached the Sol System and moved against the Palace, whose defence was directed chiefly by Rogal Dorn and the Imperial Fists together with other Loyalist forces. Fortified positions such as Bhab Bastion were the points at which the attackers’ bombardment and assaults met the defenders’ prepared fire. The Imperial Palace on Terra is the fixed location for the action. Accounts differ on the size of the garrison and on the precise sequence of assaults, and this entry does not assign names or numbers beyond what is firmly attested. The fate of the bastion is best read within the outcome of the Siege of Terra as a whole. Although the defenders suffered heavy losses, the Palace was not taken. The siege ended with the death of Horus and the collapse of the assault, and the Emperor was interred in the Golden Throne. Later tradition preserves the bastion chiefly as one of the named positions on the Palace walls, and readers are directed to the Siege of Terra, the Imperial Palace and the Horus Heresy for the surrounding chronology and for contemporaries.
