Bhab Bastion Assault
The Bhab Bastion Assault was a Traitor attack on a fortified point of the Imperial Palace’s outer defences during the Siege of Terra. It belongs to the final phase of the Horus Heresy in the thirty-first millennium, when the forces of the Warmaster Horus had brought their fleets to Terra and sought to breach the Palace complex and reach the Emperor. The bastion is recorded as one of the strongpoints along the Palace’s outer works, and its assault is one of several concurrent actions that tested the wall’s garrisons. The cause of the assault lay in the Traitors’ need to weaken the outer defences before a wider advance on the inner Palace could be attempted. Loyalist forces under Rogal Dorn, Primarch of the Imperial Fists and Praetorian of Terra, held the wall with Legiones Astartes, Imperial Army regiments and Palace auxiliaries, and the bastion served as one link in that fortified line. The course of the fighting is recorded chiefly as a contest for the bastion’s ramparts and approaches, under sustained bombardment and repeated ground assaults. Accounts differ on the detail of individual engagements, and this entry does not attribute specific units or commanders where the record is uncertain. The assault is best read as one action within the larger siege, alongside the fighting at the Lion’s Gate, the Eternity Gate and the wider Palace perimeter, rather than as a decisive battle on its own. Its consequence was to add to the attrition on both sides and to shape the defenders’ deployment as the siege moved towards its climax on Terra. On the Orrery map it is anchored to Terra, and on the timeline it falls within the Siege of Terra, so it can be read alongside the neighbouring engagements of the same weeks.
