Crimson Fist Founding
The Crimson Fist Founding was the creation of the Crimson Fists, a Space Marine Chapter of Imperial Fists gene-seed, in the Second Founding. It belongs to the reorganisation of the Space Marine Legions that followed the Horus Heresy and the Siege of Terra, when the surviving Legions were divided into Chapters of roughly one thousand warriors. The Imperial Fists, the Legion of Rogal Dorn, had defended the Imperial Palace on Terra and emerged from the war badly depleted, so their gene-seed became the source for several successor Chapters, among them the Crimson Fists. The measure is associated with the Codex Astartes attributed to Roboute Guilliman, which was intended to prevent any single commander from again holding the strength of an entire Legion. The Crimson Fists were established as one of the Second Founding Chapters in the 31st millennium, drawing their progenitor stock from the Imperial Fists and inheriting that Legion’s tradition of siegecraft and fortification. Their recruiting and fortress world was later Rynn’s World, in the Segmentum Pacificus. The names of the Chapter’s first Master and the exact year of its founding are not reliably recorded, and accounts differ on the details of its early muster. The founding is best understood alongside the other Imperial Fists successors, notably the Black Templars, which shared the same Legion inheritance while following a separate course. For the Crimson Fists it set the terms of a long service on the Imperium’s frontier, which continued for some ten thousand years. That history reached a turning point in 999.M41, when an Ork assault on Rynn’s World destroyed much of the Chapter’s strength and left it seeking recruits and recovery in the following century. The event therefore links Terra in the aftermath of the Heresy with a distant Chapter world and a much later crisis in the timeline.
