The Unnumbered Sons Deployment names the mass dispatch of newly raised Primaris Space Marines during the Indomitus Crusade of early M42. Named for the sheer scale of reinforcements drawn from the archmagos Belisarius Cawl’s hidden manufactories, it marks the moment centuries of covert work were unveiled and turned to war footing across a galaxy torn open by the Cicatrix Maledictum. Imperial record treats the deployment as a single galaxy-wide event rather than a campaign with fixed borders, its warriors distributed wherever the Great Rift had left the Adeptus Astartes weakest. Its origins lie in the resurrection of Roboute Guilliman and his discovery that Cawl had, over ten thousand years, engineered and stockpiled a new strain of Space Marine on Mars and its associated forge worlds. With the Imperium bisected by the Great Rift and countless Chapters isolated or destroyed, Guilliman ordered these Primaris warriors released without the customary rites of individual founding and cataloguing, a break with tradition that later gave rise to the ‘unnumbered’ epithet. Strike fleets of the Indomitus Crusade carried them outward from Ultramar to fractured warzones across the galaxy, reinforcing depleted companies, raising new Chapters outright, and relieving besieged worlds Imperial command had believed lost. The deployment’s effects outlasted the crusade itself: surviving First Founding Chapters absorbed Primaris companies with varying ease, and the influx is recorded as a lasting source of doctrinal tension between older traditions and Cawl’s innovations. Contemporaries of the event include Guilliman as Lord Commander and regent, Cawl as its architect, and the many Chapter Masters who received reinforcement convoys they had neither requested nor always fully trusted.
