Vilamus Raid
The Vilamus Raid was a 41st-millennium assault by Huron Blackheart’s Red Corsairs against forces of the Marines Errant at Vilamus. The two sides were a renegade warband and a loyalist Space Marine Chapter, and the raid is remembered chiefly as an engagement between them rather than as a campaign of conquest. Orrery files the event beneath Terra for cataloguing purposes, but its theatre is the Vilamus map anchor, and the Imperium’s wider defence of its frontier provides the setting in which the clash is placed. The Red Corsairs are recorded as a raiding power, taking materiel, ships and recruits from Imperial holdings, and the assault on Vilamus is generally read in that pattern. The Marines Errant, as the defenders, are the loyalist party in the exchange. Accounts differ on the size of the forces committed, the length of the fighting and the losses on either side, and this entry does not supply figures that the record does not support. What can be stated is the pairing of the two forces, the place, and the millennium. The raid belongs to the long history of the Red Corsairs, a warband that emerged under Huron Blackheart from the Astral Claws after the Badab War and withdrew into the Maelstrom, from which it has since struck at Imperial worlds. The Tiger Claws, another Badab-era successor faction, are a contemporary of that history and a useful neighbour on the timeline.
