Cassian Dracos

Lord Commander of the XVIII, Dreadnought

Also known as Cassian Vaughn, The Dracos Revenant

Homeworld: Nocturne

Cassian Dracos, formerly Lord Commander Cassian Vaughn, led the Eighteenth Legion before Vulkan and was later entombed in the Dreadnought Dracos Revenant. A Dreadnought is an armoured walker that houses a warrior too gravely injured to continue in his own body. Vaughn was interred in this one after a war against the Orks broke him, and he took the name Dracos thereafter.

The Dreadnought remained active at Isstvan, and Dracos survived the dropsite there. He then endured a period of concealment lasting years. Afterwards he withdrew from wars that were not his own. He retained the outlook of a former master of the Legion and declined to serve merely as a weapon.

On Nocturne, Dracos became a matter of religious dispute rather than of military concern. The Promethean Creed accommodates fire but gives less scope to a former Lord Commander who argues from within a sarcophagus. He later entered Nocturne’s desert and did not return at the direction of any other party. Some accounts hold that he still walks. Among the legends associated with the Eighteenth, his is distinguished by having a physical chassis.
