Atesh Tarsa

Atesh Tarsa is recorded as an officer of the Salamanders Legion during the Horus Heresy, associated with the Isstvan V campaign of the Space Marine Legions. The Salamanders, whose primarch is Vulkan and whose Legion’s recruiting and cultural roots lie on Nocturne, were one of the Loyalist Legions committed to the Isstvan system, and Tarsa is placed among the Legion’s commanders in that theatre.

The Isstvan V campaign followed the Isstvan III atrocity, in which Horus’s faction destroyed the world’s rebel population and revealed the extent of the Warmaster’s treachery. Loyalist forces, including the Salamanders alongside the Iron Hands and the Raven Guard, were then sent to Isstvan V to confront the Legions that had turned. The landing became the Drop Site Massacre, in which Traitor contingents that had been presented as allies attacked the Loyalist landing zones. Accounts of Tarsa’s individual conduct during these events are limited, and no detailed record of his earlier career, his standing within the Salamanders’ chain of command, or his relationships with named comrades is established here; none is inferred.

Tarsa’s significance lies chiefly in what he represents: the Salamanders officer corps at Isstvan V, a Legion that suffered heavy losses in the Loyalist reverses there. His contemporaries in the same window include Ferrus Manus of the Iron Hands and Corvus Corax of the Raven Guard, who commanded the other Loyalist forces on the surface, and Fulgrim and Horus among those who opposed them. His fate is not firmly recorded, and his status is therefore given as unknown. On the Orrery graph he is anchored to the Salamanders, to Nocturne, and to Isstvan V in the opening phase of the Horus Heresy.
