Pellas Mir’san

Pellas Mir’san was a captain of the Salamanders, the Eighteenth Legion of the Space Marines, in the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy periods. The Salamanders were raised on Nocturne, a volcanic world whose people shaped the Legion’s reputation for forge-craft, endurance and care for the mortals it protected. Mir’san is recorded among the Legion’s senior officers, serving under the primarch Vulkan, and is one of the named figures through whom the Legion’s command structure is described in the setting.

The Salamanders fought in the Great Crusade as a Legion noted for its close bond with the civilian populations of the worlds it brought into the Imperium. Later tradition places Mir’san among the officers who survived the Dropsite Massacre on Isstvan V, the ambush in which the loyalist Salamanders, Iron Hands and Raven Guard were caught by Legions that had declared for Horus. The Salamanders emerged from that engagement scattered and gravely reduced, and the fortunes of their surviving captains are recorded less fully than those of the primarch and his equerry, Artellus Numeon. Accounts differ on the detail of Mir’san’s part in these events, and this entry does not assign to him actions that the established record does not attribute.

Mir’san’s standing is that of a named Salamanders captain of the Heresy era whose personal history is only sparsely attested. His status is given as unknown, since the record does not settle whether he survived the wars that followed Isstvan V. On the Orrery map his story is bound to Nocturne, the Legion’s homeworld, and to Isstvan V, where the Legion’s losses began. His contemporaries include Vulkan, Artellus Numeon and the other loyalist Legions scattered after the massacre.
