Gabriel Santar

Gabriel Santar is a warrior of the Iron Hands Legion Astartes, recorded in connection with the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre during the Horus Heresy. The Iron Hands were the Legion of the primarch Ferrus Manus, and in the period of the Heresy they stood on the loyalist side, against the rebellion of the Warmaster Horus. Surviving accounts of Santar as an individual are sparse, and his rank, command and personal history are not firmly established here.

The setting in which he is placed is well attested. Ferrus Manus led the Iron Hands, alongside Vulkan of the Salamanders and Corvus Corax of the Raven Guard, into the Urgall Depression on Isstvan V in 006.M31, expecting to bring Horus to account. Four Legions presumed loyal, the Iron Warriors, Night Lords, Alpha Legion and Word Bearers, then arrived and attacked the relief force from the rear. Ferrus Manus was killed in single combat with Fulgrim of the Emperor’s Children, and the Iron Hands were reduced to a fraction of their former strength. No specific deed, command or relationship of Santar’s during these events is asserted on this page, and accounts of his fate differ or are silent.

Santar’s significance is that of a named member of a Legion whose history was redirected by Isstvan V, after which the survivors of the Iron Hands, Salamanders and Raven Guard came to be called the Shattered Legions. His contemporaries on the same field include Ferrus Manus, Fulgrim, Vulkan and Corax. On Orrery he is bound to Isstvan V in 006.M31 and to the Iron Hands on the timeline, and is best read alongside the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre and the Iron Hands entries. His status is recorded as unknown.
