Endryd Haar

Endryd Haar is a World Eaters Space Marine of the Horus Heresy era, later counted among the Blackshields, loyalist survivors stripped of Legion identity. He is recorded as a legionary of the World Eaters who did not follow his Legion into the betrayal of the Emperor, and who survived the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre as an isolated combatant rather than as part of an organised Loyalist formation.

Following the massacre, Haar is held to have joined the loose coalition of unmarked survivors that later tradition terms the Blackshields, composed of Loyalist remnants drawn from several Legions, including some, such as the World Eaters, that had turned Traitor as a whole. Lacking the insignia, chain of command, and material support of a parent Legion, these warriors fought in small, self-directed groups against Traitor forces during the later campaigns of the Heresy, their black, unmarked wargear replacing the heraldry of the Legions they had lost. Haar’s continued service is attested chiefly through his association with the Blackshields rather than through any recorded affiliation with a World Eaters company.

Haar’s standing rests on his identification as one of the World Eaters who did not share in the Legion’s embrace of the Butcher’s Nails-driven violence and the worship of Chaos, illustrating that individual loyalty within the Legiones Astartes did not always follow Legion-wide allegiance. As a Blackshield, he is representative of a broader phenomenon of the Horus Heresy in which survivors of shattered or Traitor-aligned commands continued to serve the Imperial cause while forfeiting recognition by, and support from, their Legion of origin.
