Menkaura

Menkaura is a Thousand Sons Space Marine sorcerer who survived the Rubric of Ahriman with his mind intact.

A former officer of the Thousand Sons Legion prior to the Horus Heresy, Menkaura is described in later accounts as a diviner associated with the Legion’s Corvidae cult, one of several internal orders of Thousand Sons sorcery devoted to the practice and study of prophecy. Following the destruction of Prospero and the casting of the Rubric of Ahriman by the sorcerer Ahriman, a working that stripped the greater part of the Legion’s rank and file of independent will and reduced them to the automata later termed the Rubric Marines, Menkaura was numbered among the small minority of Thousand Sons who retained their faculties. He subsequently attached himself to the itinerant warband gathered by Ahriman in the period following the Heresy, a company of similarly spared sorcerers who moved between the fringes of Imperial and traitor space in connection with Ahriman’s continuing efforts to address the ritual’s effects.

Menkaura’s standing derives principally from his status as one of the named exceptions to the Rubric of Ahriman, a role that situates him among the small number of Thousand Sons individuals whose fates after the Heresy are recorded in any detail. His association with Ahriman’s coterie places him within the broader account of the Thousand Sons Legion’s fracturing after the fall of Prospero, in which former legionaries pursued divergent paths of survival, servitude to Chaos, or continued sorcerous research. Accounts differ on the particulars of his later activities, but his inclusion among Ahriman’s followers marks him as a minor, recurring figure in the documented history of the Legion’s post-Heresy existence.
