Lemuel Gaumon

Lemuel Gaumon was a remembrancer attached to the Thousand Sons Legion, a scholar who acquired knowledge of its arts on Prospero. A civilian, he was not a member of the Legion. He escaped the Wolves and was later confined in a prison of the Silent Sisterhood. He emerged as a vessel: a mind that other parties could inhabit, and a record the Legion could neither safely destroy nor safely leave intact.

Before the burning of Prospero, Ahriman’s Legion brothers had regarded him as a minor companion who carried a camera. After the burning, he served in turn as evidence, hostage and instrument. Both the Pavoni and the Corvidae influenced him. Throughout, Gaumon sought to remain a historian, while the warp treated him as a resource to be used.

Remembrancers dispatched from Terra were intended to explain compliance to the Legions. Gaumon’s case runs in the opposite direction: it illustrates the danger of curiosity. He remains a civilian rather than a Thousand Son, and he stands as an example of a non-combatant who worked in close proximity to a Fellowship and survived the consequences.
