Ohthere Wyrdmake

Ohthere Wyrdmake is a Rune Priest of the Space Wolves Legion, a seer whose warnings of Prospero’s peril echo through the Horus Heresy. As one of the Vlka Fenryka’s wyrd-readers, he serves the Legion in a role distinct from a chaplain or company captain, divining doom through the old Fenrisian arts and counselling Leman Russ and the Rout on matters no astropath or tactician could resolve.

Ohthere Wyrdmake is recorded among the Rune Priests whose growing unease with the Thousand Sons Legion’s use of sorcery fed the suspicions that culminated in the Council of Nikaea, where the Emperor moved to curb the unchecked practice of psychic power across the Legiones Astartes. Accounts describe him and his fellow seers as wary of Magnus the Red’s librarians, and of Ahriman in particular, holding that the Thousand Sons’ mastery of the warp on Prospero invited a ruin the Space Wolves were bound by wyrd to witness or avert. That mistrust hardened Russ’s resolve in the events that followed, aligning Ohthere’s counsel with the Wolves’ eventual march upon Magnus’s world.

Ohthere Wyrdmake’s standing rests on this position at the threshold of the Nikaea judgement and the subsequent reckoning with the Thousand Sons, binding him to Prospero as firmly as to Fenris in the chronology of the Horus Heresy. His fate beyond these events is not clearly attested, and later tradition holds him among the Rune Priesthood’s cautionary voices — a seer remembered less for deeds of arms than for foresight that helped set the Space Wolves on their course against a brother Legion.
