Ana Curth

Ana Curth is an Imperial Guard medicae captain who served with the Tanith First-and-Only and rose to become its chief medicae. Attached to the regiment’s small support cadre within the Astra Militarum forces committed to the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, she is recorded across the regiment’s chronicle as a frontline surgeon whose duties spanned battlefield triage, the treatment of chronic wounds, and the management of medical supplies that were, for much of the Crusade, perpetually scarce. Unlike the regiment’s combat officers, Curth belonged to the handful of non-combatant specialists whose continuous presence through campaign after campaign is treated as central to the Ghosts’ survival as a fighting body, rather than to any single battle honour.

For much of her career Curth served as subordinate and eventual successor to Tolin Dorden, the regiment’s founding chief medicae, learning field practice under him and sharing responsibility for the wounded through numerous engagements of the Crusade. Accounts of the regiment also describe a close personal bond forming between Curth and its commanding officer, Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, over the course of their long shared service — a relationship that later tradition holds grew beyond the professional, and that placed her among the small circle of officers with sustained personal access to Gaunt outside the chain of command. Her standing with both Dorden and Gaunt makes her one of the clearest points of continuity linking the regiment’s medical service to its command staff across the Crusade’s many campaigns.

Following Dorden’s death, Curth assumed his former role as chief medicae, taking direct responsibility for the regiment’s medical service in his place. The transition is recorded as one of the quieter but more consequential successions within the Tanith First-and-Only’s history: where Dorden had shaped the regiment’s medical practice from its earliest campaigns, Curth inherited both his duties and the burden of maintaining care for a regiment worn thin by years of continuous deployment. Her promotion did not accompany any change in the regiment’s combat role, but it marked her transformation from a subordinate healer into the officer accountable for the survival of the wounded across whatever campaigns followed.
