Colonel Circas

Colonel Circas is recorded as an officer of the Tanith planetary forces prior to the Founding of the Tanith First-and-Only Imperial Guard regiment. He held field rank within the world’s defensive establishment in the period immediately preceding the arrival of Commissar-Colonel Ibram Gaunt, who was dispatched to organise Tanith’s resistance against an Archenemy incursion.

Accounts of Circas’s service during this period are fragmentary, as the bulk of surviving testimony concerning Tanith’s final defence derives from those who survived the world’s destruction and went on to serve in the regiment subsequently raised in its name. His role is understood to have been confined to the pre-Founding phase of the defence, before command of Tanith’s remaining forces passed into the structure that became the Tanith First-and-Only. Later tradition holds that he was among the officers of the planetary defence force active at the time of Gaunt’s arrival, though the precise nature of his duties and his eventual fate are not consistently attested.
