Brin Milo
Adjutant, Piper
Also known as Milo
Homeworld: Tanith
Brin Milo is a Tanith piper and adjutant who grew up in the Tanith First-and-Only after Gaunt took him from his dying world. The regiment, known as the Ghosts, would not ordinarily have included a child among its ranks.
Milo played the pipes, carried messages and survived, and in doing so became identified with the Ghosts’ good fortune. After the events on Herodor he left the line to travel with powers older than those of a colonel-commissar. Later books in the series repeatedly place him at the margins of events, still carrying his pipes.
Milo is not a regimental mascot. He represents the survival of the First-and-Only, and the Ghosts continue to listen for his tune before a night move. Gaunt does so as well.
