Ban Daur

Ban Daur is a Verghastite officer of the Tanith First-and-Only, the Astra Militarum regiment known as Gaunt’s Ghosts, active during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. He began his military career as a captain of the Vervun Primary, the hive militia of Vervunhive on Verghast, and was among the survivors absorbed into Gaunt’s regiment once the hive’s siege had passed, rising in time to the rank of major.

Daur’s transfer to the Ghosts followed the assault brought against Vervunhive by the Archon Anakwanar Sek, an attack that devastated the hive and left much of its militia and citizenry without a home world, a circumstance the Tanith-born core of the regiment already shared after the loss of Tanith itself. Under Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, the Verghastite intake was folded into the existing Tanith companies, and Daur is recorded as one of the more measured and orthodox officers among them, a steadiness that set him apart from more contentious colleagues such as Major Rawne. He served through the regiment’s later campaigns of the Crusade, and his personal history became bound to the Ghosts’ Verghastite contingent through his relationship with Elodie Dutana, a fellow Verghastite who travelled with the regiment as a trader and whom later accounts record him as marrying.

Daur’s standing rests on his place among the senior officers who carried the Tanith First-and-Only through the Sabbat Worlds Crusade after the regiment absorbed a second body of recruits drawn from Verghast in place of the world it had already lost. He is regarded as active within the regiment in the current era of the narrative. His career is bound in place to Verghast and Vervunhive, in time to the siege usually placed around 780.M41 and its aftermath, and in company to Gaunt, Rawne and the wider Tanith First-and-Only alongside whom he served.
