Foedral Fell

Foedral Fell was a Word Bearers commander who took part in the attack on Calth and was killed during the opening of the Horus Heresy. He is recorded among the Legion’s senior officers in the assault on the Ultramarines’ realm of Ultramar, and his name appears in accounts of both the Battle of Calth and the Underworld War that followed it. Details of his origins and earlier service are not recorded, and the surviving record of the Legion offers little beyond his part in these events.

Accounts differ on his rank and on the spelling of his name. One listing of the Calth commanders styles him Force Commander Foedrall Fell, alongside Hol Beloth and Morpal Cxir, while the account of the Underworld War names him a captain. Both agree that he was among the Word Bearers officers who fought on Calth in the Veridian System, and both record his death there. In the Underworld War, the Dark Apostle Maloq Kartho is recorded as having sacrificed Fell, together with the last remnants of his forces, as part of a trap designed to draw the Ultramarines captain Remus Ventanus out of an arcology so that a virus bomb could be detonated. Ventanus prevented the detonation, and Kartho was cast into a warp rift.

Fell’s significance is that of a named participant rather than a principal actor: he shows how the Word Bearers’ officers were spent in the Legion’s betrayal of the Ultramarines. His contemporaries in the same window include the First Captain Kor Phaeron, the First Chaplain Erebus, Hol Beloth, Morpal Cxir, Maloq Kartho and Kurtha Sedd on the traitor side, and Roboute Guilliman and Remus Ventanus among the defenders of Ultramar. His death is bound to Calth and to the opening phase of the Horus Heresy, and he is not recorded as surviving into the 41st Millennium.
