Klord Empion

Klord Empion was Chapter Master of the Ultramarines’ Ninth and the youngest holder of that rank when the Word Bearers attacked Calth. A Macraggan officer, he gained his experience of high command during the same events in which the Ultramarines suffered that betrayal. He served aboard *Macragge’s Honour* during the most severe phase of the fighting.

Empion took part in the void war off Calth and later in the ground fighting on Thoas. His preparation for the rank had been largely theoretical, and he acquired practical experience of command at the cost of losses among his own battle-brothers. He did not lose composure under these conditions, and Gage continued to employ him.

The record thins after Thoas. The Ninth remained on the Ultramarines’ lists with a Chapter Master, but Macraggan sources do not state whether Empion survived to see the Codex or was lost during the Scouring. His youth conferred no protection: in the Ultramarines, Guilliman committed young officers to the fighting as a resource, and Empion’s career reflects that practice.
