Sorot Tchure

Sorot Tchure was a Word Bearers legionary who fired the first shot at Calth, killing the Ultramarines captain Honorius Luciel. Colchis had sent him ostensibly as a friend, and he shot Luciel in what was presented as a greeting between fellow legionaries.

That single bolt round showed the Ultramarines the hostility of the Word Bearers, and Tchure’s action began the fighting on the world. In the engagements that followed, he fought Aeonid Thiel. He then left Calth in company with Kor Phaeron, at the point when the Thirteenth Legion (the Ultramarines) began collecting Word Bearers apostles as proof of the betrayal. His part in the war thus passed from a single killing to a campaign, and then to an extraction.

Tchure escaped Calth, and his later whereabouts are recorded only as missing. The likeliest reading is that the Seventeenth Legion (the Word Bearers) retained him for further service. Accounts of Calth generally name Luciel first, and Tchure is remembered chiefly as the legionary who fired the opening shot and survived.
