Hol Beloth

Hol Beloth was a Word Bearers officer who commanded traitor forces at Calth during the Horus Heresy and was killed in the Underground War. He is recorded with the rank of Force Commander in accounts of the opening Battle of Calth and as a Captain in accounts of the Underground War, and he is associated with the warband styled the Graven Star Chapter. His origins and earlier service within the XVII Legion are not established in the available record.

Beloth took part in the Word Bearers’ assault on Ultramar in 007.M31, the ambush of the Ultramarines that opened the Battle of Calth, alongside other senior officers of the Legion including First Captain Kor Phaeron, First Chaplain Erebus and the Force Commanders Foedral Fell and Morpal Cxir. When the fleet action failed to destroy the Ultramarines and the fighting moved beneath the surface of Calth, he remained on the planet. Leading the Graven Star Chapter, he is recorded as overrunning the Uranik arcology, where captured defenders were ritually sacrificed. The Underground War against Ultramarine officers such as Captain Remus Ventanus and Sergeant Aeonid Thiel continued until 014.M31, and Beloth is listed among the traitor commanders killed in it.

Beloth is a secondary figure, and his standing rests on where and when he served rather than on a long career. His death is one of several among the Word Bearers’ field commanders at Calth, a group that also includes Foedral Fell, Morpal Cxir and the Dark Apostle Kurtha Sedd, while Kor Phaeron and Maloq Kartho are recorded as surviving the initial battle.
