Captain Galenus

Captain Galenus commands the Ultramarines 5th Company and is a line officer who prefers to deploy scouts within the battle line, where he can observe them. He interprets the Codex Astartes, the Chapter’s doctrinal text, as a common operational language rather than a menu of options.

During the Bloodborn invasion of Ultramar, Galenus and Epathus held Quintarn against the Dark Mechanicus factories of Votheer Tark. The defence continued until Telion bypassed Galenus’s position and destroyed the forges. Cassius later persuaded Galenus to allow the 10th Company to undertake the work suited to that company.

The Ultramarines promote officers of Galenus’s type because the Chapter requires commanders to sustain conventional operations while other figures undertake more exceptional tasks. Galenus continues to fill that role.
