Crysos Morturg

Crysos Morturg is a Death Guard legionary remembered as one of the few who remained loyal to the Emperor at Isstvan III. His service predates the Horus Heresy, tracing to the compliance wars Mortarion’s Legion waged out of Barbarus, and later accounts place him among the Death Guard who refused the Legion’s embrace of the Plague God’s pact.

When Horus turned the Warmaster’s council against the Emperor and Mortarion committed the Death Guard to the betrayal at Isstvan III, Morturg is recorded as standing apart from the massacre of the loyalist Legions on the dropsite world. Later tradition links him to the scattered remnant of Death Guard and allied loyalists who broke from the XIV Legion’s fleet rather than fight alongside Typhus and the officers who would carry Nurgle’s corruption into the Legion’s bloodline. Accounts differ on his fate after the schism, and no complete record survives of his subsequent campaigns.

Morturg’s standing rests less on a documented campaign history than on his place among the handful of Death Guard who did not follow Mortarion into damnation, a contrast to figures such as Typhus and Ignatius Grulgor who steered the Legion toward the Plague God. His name is bound to Barbarus as a homeworld and to the Isstvan III dropsite massacre as the defining moment separating the Death Guard’s loyalist remnant from the Plague Marines the Legion became.
