Horus Aximand
Captain of the 5th Company, Mournival
Also known as Little Horus
Homeworld: Cthonia
Horus Aximand, called Little Horus, was a captain of the Sons of Horus and a member of the Mournival who sided with the Warmaster in the Horus Heresy. Born on Cthonia, he rose through the Legion during the Great Crusade to command its Fifth Company, and was numbered among the Warmaster’s closest advisers as one of the four members of the Mournival. His nickname derives from a marked facial resemblance to Horus Lupercal, which shaped how the Legion regarded him and, later, how his enemies chose to use him. His principal seat of command was the flagship Vengeful Spirit.
Within the Mournival he served alongside Ezekyle Abaddon, Tarik Torgaddon and Hastur Sejanus; after Sejanus’s death Garviel Loken was raised to the council. When Horus turned against the Emperor, Aximand followed him. On Isstvan III he took part in the Legion’s attack on those of its own battle-brothers who remained loyal, an action in which Torgaddon and many others were killed. During that fighting Loken, the newest of his fellow Mournival members, is recorded as having scarred Aximand’s face, which ended the near-identical likeness that had set him apart. The wound marks a shift in his standing, and the scar is often treated as the visible boundary between the Legion’s Great Crusade identity and its life as a rebel host.
Aximand continued to serve the Warmaster through the Heresy’s campaigns, remaining in Horus’s inner circle alongside Abaddon. His later career is bound to the Siege of Terra, where accounts record that he was killed in the Saturnine ambush, a loyalist trap that exploited his resemblance to Horus. He is a distinct figure from Hastur Sejanus, whose place in the Mournival passed to Loken rather than to Aximand. On the Orrery map his origin lies on Cthonia and his death on Terra, with Isstvan III as the pivotal midpoint in between; on the timeline his career runs from the Sons of Horus’s Great Crusade service, through the Isstvan campaign, to the final assault on the Throneworld.
