Macaroth

Macaroth is the Warmaster of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, an Astra Militarum marshal who succeeded Slaydo and led the Imperial war against Chaos. He is recorded as a young officer who rose quickly under Slaydo’s command. When three senior commanders fell within hours on the Balopolis front, he took command of the sector and earned a battlefield Marshal’s baton. Slaydo later named him successor on Balhaut. When Slaydo died in the act of killing the Archenemy warmaster Nadzybar, Macaroth inherited both the war and the command ship Liberatus.

His accession was contested. Several Lords Militant are recorded as spending the following year trying to unseat him, but the rank and file kept to Slaydo’s choice, and Macaroth retained the warmastership. From Balhaut the crusade turned towards the Cabal Salient, where he drove the advance hard through Morlond, Cociaminus, the Belshiir Binary and other Cabal Systems. In the accounts that survive, his method is summed up in a single maxim: strike the head, not the limbs. Under it, the Imperial forces went for the enemy’s leadership and command centres rather than its scattered garrisons.

The strategy carried a heavy cost. Archon Urlock Gaur’s Blood Pact mounted counter-offensives against the flanks of the Imperial advance, and the salient continued to bleed through 773.M41. Accounts differ on whether the losses were a fair price for the initiative he held. Macaroth’s critics within the Imperial command are usually counted among the Lords Militant who opposed his appointment. His name is tied to Balhaut, where he was chosen, and to the Cabal Salient, where his strategy was tested. On the Orrery map, Sabbat Worlds anchors his campaigns. On the timeline, his career runs from Balhaut through Morlond and the Cabal Systems to Formal Prime, and it overlaps with the Imperial Guard regiments and Blood Pact commanders who fought there.
