Rawne

Elim Rawne is a major of the Tanith First and Only, the Astra Militarum regiment known as Gaunt’s Ghosts, serving in the Sabbat Worlds Crusade. A native of the forest world of Tanith, he was among the regiment’s officers at its founding in 765.M41 and was promoted to major alongside Colm Corbec when the survivors of the Tanith levies were combined into a single regiment under Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt.

Rawne was aboard the transports when Tanith was destroyed by a Chaos fleet on the night the regiment was raised, and he shares with the other Ghosts the condition of having no homeworld to which to return. He is recorded as an abrasive and insubordinate officer whose early hostility towards Gaunt gave way, over the course of the crusade, to a grudging and undemonstrative loyalty. His principal relationships within the regiment are with Corbec, with the scout Mkoll, and with Gaunt himself, whose command he has alternately resisted and upheld. Accounts differ on the precise nature and duration of his early disaffection, and the details are best treated with caution. He served with the regiment through the campaigns following its departure from Tanith, including the siege of Vervunhive on Verghast and later actions in the Sabbat Worlds.

Rawne’s standing rests on his position as one of the senior officers of a regiment defined by the loss of its world, and on the persistence of his rivalry and reconciliation with Gaunt as one of the regiment’s longest-running internal relationships. He is regarded as active within the Sabbat Worlds Crusade in the current era. His career is bound in time to the Burning of Tanith and the crusade under the Warmasters Slaydo and Macaroth, and in space to Tanith and to the theatres, such as Phantine, in which the Ghosts fought.
