Zahariel El’Zurias

Zahariel El’Zurias was a Calibanite Librarian of the Dark Angels who remained with Luther and later held the title of Lord Cypher. He was cousin to Nemiel, and he came to regard loyalty to Caliban as distinct from loyalty to the First Legion.

When the Lion took the Legion’s war off-world, Zahariel stayed with Luther. The forests of Caliban had already shown him the Ouroboros, and he was young when he committed to the Calibanite allegiance. He killed the Lord Cypher of the time and received the title from Luther. His cousin Nemiel took the opposing side within the same family and died.

Whether the Cypher active in the forty-first millennium (M41) is Zahariel, wearing different armour in a later century, remains unresolved, because the sources do not settle the question. Zahariel stands among the figures through which allegiance to Caliban, as opposed to allegiance to the Legion, continues.
