Arjac Rockfist

Arjac Rockfist, called the Anvil of Fenris, is a Wolf Guard of the Space Wolves and the personal champion of Logan Grimnar, the Chapter’s Great Wolf. He carries Foehammer, a relic thunder hammer that returns to his hand when thrown, and his place in the Great Company of Logan Grimnar is nearest the Wolf King himself, whether at council in the Fang or at the forefront of battle.

Arjac did not begin as a warrior. He was a craftsman attached to an Iron Priest, one of the Chapter’s weaponsmiths, and by rights should have spent his service at the forge rather than the front line. Circumstance repeatedly drew him into combat regardless: when a gate or breach needed holding and no one else stood ready, Arjac took up arms, and did so often enough that his reputation outgrew his trade. It was one such stand, in which he struck down a foe with a single blow of such force that it could not go unnoticed, that brought him to Logan Grimnar’s attention. The Great Wolf judged him wasted at the anvil and had him raised into the Wolf Guard as a fighting huscarl instead, ending his career as a smith and beginning his career at Grimnar’s side.

As a Wolf Guard, Arjac stands among the Space Wolves’ most senior veterans, the warriors a Wolf Lord binds directly to his own retinue and trusts with his life. His contemporaries in Logan Grimnar’s inner circle and the wider Chapter of this era include Njal Stormcaller, the Chapter’s foremost Rune Priest; Ragnar Blackmane, Wolf Lord of his own Great Company; and Bjorn the Fell-Handed, the ancient Dreadnought who is the oldest living Space Wolf. Arjac’s own role is narrower and more constant than any of theirs: where they lead companies or serve as counsel, he remains fixed at Grimnar’s shoulder, the Wolf King’s answer to any challenge that demands a champion rather than a general.

Foehammer is central to how Arjac is remembered. Thrown into a foe, it strikes and returns to him as surely as he himself returns from whatever battle has called him away from the Fang, the Space Wolves’ fortress-monastery on Fenris. Among a Chapter that prizes bold and boastful heroes, Arjac’s standing rests on that plainer record of reliability rather than display: sent out, he comes back, and so does his hammer. He is recorded as still active, holding his place beside Logan Grimnar as Champion and Anvil of Fenris.
