Gadriel

Valorem Gadriel is a squad sergeant in the Second Company of the Ultramarines, a military Chapter based on Macragge. After drawing the notice of Captain Acheran at an early age, Gadriel received a squad placed under the authority of Lieutenant Titus, an officer returning from an unrecorded century of absence. When a daemon—a malevolent entity—offered an incriminating account regarding Titus, Gadriel initially accused his superior, but he struck the creature down with his blade once the accusation proved false.

Gadriel gained operational experience through combat on Kadaku, within a hive city, and on Demerium. Although Acheran had originally entrusted him with squad leadership, Gadriel established mutual trust with Titus only after the destruction of the daemon known as a Lord of Change. Once the entity was reduced to ash, Titus disclosed the truth of his absence, and Gadriel demonstrated reconciliation by remaining in his post beside the lieutenant.

Following an engagement in which Trygg took both Captain Acheran and Chairon, Titus reassumed command of the Second Company. Gadriel remained within the company’s command echelon. The military hierarchy of Macragge values sergeants who survive errors of judgement and promptly resume their place in the line of battle.
