Idriss Krendl

Idriss Krendl was Warsmith of the Iron Warriors 14th, whom Perturabo sent against Barabas Dantioch’s Schadenhold at Lesser Damantyne. Perturabo, the Olympian who commanded the IV Legion, selected him for a campaign that had been intended as a demonstration of Iron Warriors siegecraft.

The operation did not proceed as planned. Dantioch’s fortress, defended with a mountain at its back, held out, and Krendl committed a grand battalion to the assault without breaching it. He survived the war, although his reputation did not emerge undamaged. He later reappeared in operations around Euphorus.

Krendl was not the architect of the Tallarn operation, despite the implication of later briefings. The failure at Schadenhold remained the defining setback of his career. The IV Legion nevertheless retained him in its order of battle, a decision consistent with Perturabo’s tendency to expend materiel freely but to retain grievances, a disposition Krendl shared.
