Shadrak Meduson

Shadrak Meduson was an officer of the Iron Hands Legion who led a guerrilla resistance against the traitor Legions after the Isstvan V Dropsite Massacre. He served in Ferrus Manus’s X Legion, whose warriors were drawn from the clan holds of Medusa, and he is recorded as one of the senior Iron Hands commanders to survive the destruction of the Legion’s main body in the Horus Heresy.

The Iron Hands were among the three loyalist Legions attacked on Isstvan V, where Ferrus Manus was slain and the Legion was broken as a fighting force. In the aftermath the survivors divided over how to continue the war. Meduson organised one of the largest surviving Iron Hands factions and waged a campaign of raids and ambushes against the traitors, an approach distinct from that of his fellow officer Autek Mor, who conducted separate operations behind enemy lines. Accounts record that Meduson’s forces came close to killing Horus, Fulgrim and Mortarion during the Battle of Dwell. He later sought to unite the remaining Iron Hands with surviving Raven Guard and Salamanders into a new Legion capable of confronting Horus directly. That effort was undermined by the Cult of the Gorgon, a movement that claimed Ferrus Manus had been resurrected. Meduson is recorded as having been slain during the later war, motivated by a desire for vengeance; the precise circumstances are not set out here.

Meduson’s importance lies in the Iron Hands’ fragmentation after Isstvan V, when the Legion’s survivors pursued separate strategies rather than a single command. The map anchor is Isstvan V, where the Dropsite Massacre took place, with Medusa as the Legion’s home world; his campaign belongs to the period between the massacre and the Siege of Terra. His contemporaries include the primarchs Ferrus Manus, Corax and Vulkan among the loyalists, and Horus, Fulgrim and Mortarion among the traitors. The Iron Hands later reorganised as a Chapter, and their present-era leadership under Kardan Stronos is a separate matter from Meduson’s service in the Heresy.
