Qin Xa was master of Jaghatai Khan's Keshig, a brother from the Chogorian years who carried the Tails of the Dragon and treated the Khagan's life as a geography problem: stay between the blade and the man. He had ridden with Jaghatai before the Emperor ever found the steppes, which is why the White Scars listened when he spoke and why the Keshig did not argue about the order of the guard.
He kept the Khagan alive through the Heresy until the Kalium Gate. The wound he took there was the kind a bodyguard is supposed to take, and the kind a Legion is not supposed to survive in its chief. The Scars still reached Terra. They did it without the brother who had made reaching anywhere look inevitable.
Chogoris raises ordu-lords who would rather ride than rule. Qin Xa ruled only the space around his primarch. When that space closed, so did he.
