Tylos Rubio

Tylos Rubio was an Ultramarines Librarian of the 21st Company, the first Knight-Errant, and one of the eight who formed the core of the Grey Knights. He served in the XIII Legion under Roboute Guilliman, who had already placed him under the restrictions on psychic practice that followed the Council of Nikaea. Rubio had set aside his Librarian’s hood at the direction of Terra.

On Calth, Garro released Rubio from those restrictions in order to save a city, and recruited him as the first Knight-Errant. Rubio had refused to leave his brothers until the Word Bearers’ assault made remaining as dangerous as departing, and even then he sought an order from the Emperor. Garro held the line alongside him until that order became clear. Malcador later took Rubio into the grey, and used his unrestrained psychic ability as a template.

Rubio was one of the eight who later formed the core of the Grey Knights, a scholar of the XIII Legion reshaped into an instrument against the threat that the events at Calth had brought into the sky. His career shows the restriction he had accepted on Terra’s instruction being withdrawn once it proved inadequate to circumstances. The 21st Company lost a Librarian, and the Imperium gained a prototype.
