Ignace Karkasy

Ignace Karkasy was a remembrancer poet attached to the Luna Wolves, murdered by Maggard aboard the Vengeful Spirit after his verses caused offence. He was known for heavy drinking, a loud manner and a compulsion to record what he witnessed.

Karkasy had earlier observed Samus wearing Jubal, and he concluded from the episode that writing was a necessity rather than an option. His subsequent verses offended a number of officers aboard the Vengeful Spirit, and Maggard killed him as a result. Sindermann had sought to keep him useful and Loken to keep him alive, while conditions aboard the ship pressed him towards silence. Only the last of these efforts succeeded.

Karkasy’s poems are among the last unofficial records of a Legion shortly before it renamed itself. Terra had sent him to present the Crusade as an expression of civilisation, but his verse instead read as a warning. When the Half-heard removed Keeler and Oliton from the ship, Karkasy was not on the boarding list.
