Jenetia Krole

Knight-Commander of the Silent Sisterhood, The Soulless Queen

Also known as The Soulless Queen, Knight-Commander Krole

Homeworld: Terra

Jenetia Krole, the Soulless Queen, was Knight-Commander of the Silent Sisterhood, the Emperor’s order of null warriors, during the Horus Heresy. The Sisterhood was composed of psychically null women called blanks. It is nominally reckoned within the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, but it operated as an order in its own right. A blank’s presence suppresses astropathy, sorcery and the warp-sense of any psyker nearby, and the Emperor treated that property as a precise instrument rather than a curiosity. Krole held supreme command of the order through the Heresy and answered to the Emperor directly. She coordinated her Sisters’ deployments with the Adeptus Custodes whenever the work required it. Her epithet, the Soulless Queen, reflects the nature of her order: its members are, by their condition, absent from the warp.

How Krole rose to the Knight-Commander’s rank is not clearly recorded. The Sisterhood drew its members from blanks found across the Imperium, individuals whose condition set them apart elsewhere, and by the time of the Webway War she was already its senior officer. She led her Sisters into the Emperor’s webway project beneath the Imperial Palace on Terra. There they fought beside Constantin Valdor’s Custodian Guard in a campaign waged largely in darkness, against threats the Imperium has never fully catalogued. The Sisterhood suffered losses in that war which later record keeping has been reluctant to enumerate. Krole is remembered as having continued to command throughout, holding her order together as its numbers thinned.

When the Webway War gave way to open siege, Krole brought the surviving Sisters onto the walls of Terra. Under Rogal Dorn’s overall defence of the Imperial Palace, they served as a null screen against the psychic and daemonic dimension of the Traitors’ assault. Her closest contemporaries in that window were the Emperor, Valdor and Dorn, with whom the Sisterhood’s deployments had to be reconciled. Her adversaries on the walls included the World Eaters, and it was there that Khârn found and killed her. Her death ended the Sisterhood’s command at the height of the siege.

Later tradition holds that her loss, coming when the Sisterhood’s negating function was most needed, left a gap that was keenly felt for the remainder of the fighting. The losses already absorbed in the Webway War are counted among the reasons that gap could not easily be closed. Krole’s life is anchored to Terra, first beneath the Palace during the Webway War and then on its walls during the Siege of Terra. Her death is one of the fixed points in the Silent Sisterhood’s history. She is remembered, where she is remembered at all, as the Soulless Queen.
