Shield-Captain Valerian

Shield-Captain Valerian of the Hykanatoi is a Custodian of the Watchers of the Throne, the companion who learned in the Lion's Gate and the Palace that the Ten Thousand's quiet millennia were over. He fights as if Terra were still a fortress that can be held by excellence. The Rift has been trying to prove otherwise.

Aleya of the Silent Sisterhood became the other half of that education. Together they have done the unfashionable work of leaving the walls, killing what needed killing, and coming back to a Captain-General who now has to spend Custodians like a resource instead of a relic.

Valerian is not Valdor and not Valoris. He is the officer rank at which the Palace still has a person rather than an institution. Terra is the homeworld, the workplace, and the argument. He has not lost it yet.
